More oil for Isla soon

Oil spillWILLEMSTAD - According to the Deputy Director of the Isla Refinery, Karel van Haren, soon the refinery will be able to produce to its normal capacity in the last quarter of the year. Then the main plant for processing the crude oil will be back in operation.

It is expected that more oil tankers will dock at the port and at Bullenbaai.

Van Haren assumes that when the refining capacity is again optimal, the requested amount of crude oil will also be delivered by the Venezuelan State Oil Company PdVSA. “The sale of petroleum is the main source of income from the country,” says Van Haren. “Venezuela will make every effort to deliver crude oil to the refinery.”

Recently the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) announced that the number of oil tankers coming to Curaçao has seen a decrease of 25 percent compared with the same period last year. CPA registered about 120 tankers from January 1 till August 24. According to CPA, this is directly related to the situation in Venezuela.
