MoU between University of Curaçao and Curaçao Development Institute

MoUSigningWILLEMSTAD - On Wednesday 30 May 2018, the University of Curaçao dr. Moises da Costa Gomez (UoC) and the Curaçao Development Institute (CDI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). With the signing of this MoU, the cooperation, which has been taking place for some time, has been formalized between the two organizations. This collaboration was an initiative of the recently deceased Renny Maduro, who was dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences. Drs. Maduro believed in a collaboration between the two institutes.

The cooperation between the two parties is based on the joint aim to contribute to the development of the country of Curaçao. Both the UoC and the CDI are aware of the challenges the country faces. Through the MoU, students, researchers and young people are closely involved in the development of a better Curaçao. In this way, UoC students get a unique opportunity to use their acquired knowledge in practice.

The UoC and the CDI will work closely together in the area of the agriculture sector and water management on Curaçao. To this end, two specific pilot projects have already been identified: the establishment of an Aquaponics System (Curaponics) and the Wetland Water Management System. In addition, joint training courses, workshops and seminars will be organized in the field of capacity building for entrepreneurship.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the UoC by the Rector Magnificus, Dr. Francis de Lanoy, and by Mr. Luis Santine, Interim Managing Director of the CDI.
