Oil refinery 2019 for another 10 years of pollution
WILLEMSTAD – The oil refinery will continue with its pollution 10 years after the new contract has been signed in 2019. This is if the rules are not changed in the current contract. This is according to the Department of Health. The experts in the department have been studying the current contract provisions and are warning the government about this problem.
In 2019 the lease contract between the government and the Venezuelan State Oil Company PdVSA will expire. If by next year there is no prospect on a new contract, the oil refinery will continue refining with the same nuisance license in the new contract. Modernization is not required.
Environmental Groups are urging the Curaçao government to seek assistance from the Netherlands.
