Oil refinery announces extra flaring
WILLEMSTAD – The oil refinery Isla announced in a press statement that there will be more flaring in the coming days. This is due to problems with the Tail Gas Compressor Station. This was taken out of service yesterday for maintenance.
Isla announced this in conformity with its nuisance permit, which indicates that they to have report this to the Ministry of Public Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). The Tail Gas Compressor Station serves to compress gases of various other plants of the refinery, like the cat cracker, the HDX system, etc. to optimally burn the gas and thus limit the flaring during normal processes.
According to the refinery they have taken several operational security measures to restrict to a minimum the amount of gas that has to be flared. Isla apologized in their press release for the discomfort and inconvenience.
