Old plantations in Curaçao may become World Heritage
WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch cabinet has decided to nominate plantations of West Curaçao as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Dutch Minister of Education, Jet Bussemaker has thus taken the advice of an international group of experts in this area.
The intention is to nominate the plantations of West Curaçao in 2019. According to the experts the outstanding universal value of the plantations can be demonstrated convincingly.
There is sufficient capacity and support for sustainable conservation. The nomination can be done only in 2019 because of the amount of work still needed to be done to reach a full-term and promising nomination.
