Only Supreme Electoral Council can postpone elections
WILLEMSTAD – There is an immense confusion on the island these days. The government recently dissolved the parliament and called snap elections. But there is a new majority which signed an agreement for a coalition that will form a government for the 2017-2020 term. The last one to sign this agreement was the former MAN MP and now independent, Gassan Dannawi.
According to experts, only the Supreme Electoral Council (SEC) can postpone the elections that are scheduled on April 28. But for the SEC to do this there must be valid reasons. Otherwise, this is not possible, said the expert.
All the important dates were already determined and announced. And the new parliament should be installed no later than May 11 this year as prescribed in the Constitution.
