Parties meet to discuss tuition

Curacao Government CenterWILLEMSTAD - The student council of the University of Curaçao (UoC) met with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education about the increase in tuition fees. The meeting was at Fort Amsterdam today. The Rector Magnificus of the UoC was also present.

The students were represented by Giancarlo Fine, Alexander Hernandez, Victor Tromp and Turley Betorina.


Recently it was decided to increase the tuition fees significantly. Undergraduate students must pay 1,000 guilders extra and for the master degree they have to pay 2,000 guilders more. The university is facing serious financial problems.

The students will continue to meet with the government officials and their university management to see how they can solve this impasse whereby the needs of the students and those of the university are met.
