Patrick Aberson joins Montae

PatrickWILLEMSTAD - The activities of Montae in the field of collective pensions in the Caribbean are growing rapidly. With former Ernst & Young partner drs. Patrick W. Aberson RA, Montae reinforces itself with an experienced specialist who is familiar with the financial sector and the culture of the Caribbean. Aberson will join Montae on 1 September 2016 as partner and will focus on expanding and broadening the services of Montae for pension funds and insurers in the Caribbean.

Patrick Aberson brings over 20 years of experience in auditing and consultancy. He specializes in the financial sector in which he audited and advised banks, insurers and pension funds in the Dutch Caribbean as well as on the other islands in the region.

Montae partner Margo Lelieveld, who laid the foundation for the activities of Montae on the islands, is pleased with Aberson’s arrival.

“With his earlier experience as auditor of financial institutions, Patrick perfectly supplements our expertise in the field of pensions, asset management and risk management for pension funds and insurers”, she says. “With Patrick joining us, we will further increase our abilities to provide an insight into the complete risk position of pension funds and insurers including local investments with the related considerations and risks.”

Analysis of local investments

Financial institutions on the islands are obliged to invest the greater part of their assets locally. The possibilities for these local investments are limited.

The analysis of local investments and the impact of these investments on the risk profile of the total investment portfolio increasingly present problems to pension funds and insurers. Furthermore, it is getting more and more complex to gain a proper insight into the expected development of the investment return and to determine the required actuarial interest rate. As an independent adviser, Montae also advises financial institutions in coping with these challenges.

Increased presence and seniority

Stacey René, actuary and general manager of Montae Caribbean, looks forward to co-operating with Patrick Aberson in looking into the local investments of financial institutions from the risk position and the pension liabilities. “Our objective is to sustain the further growth of Montae Caribbean”, she explains. “With the addition of Patrick we increase our presence and seniority in the Caribbean”.

More focus on advice

Aberson is enthusiastic about his new position. “Listening to clients and giving them tailor-made independent advice about pensions, investments and risk management topics really appeals to me”, he says. “Previously, I often had a verifying role as an auditor. Now I will focus more on advice as I did in the past in dealing with due diligence and valuation issues. I look forward to doing so with my new colleagues in the Caribbean and the Netherlands”.
