Power outage in some areas of the island due to capacity shortage
WILLEMSTAD – Yesterday at around 2pm there was an electricity capacity shortage at the utility company Aqualectra. The reason was the high demand during the day. A demand that is not normal during this time of year.
Aqualectra indicated that the lack of wind in the afternoon also contributed to the power outage. All this while the CRU plant cannot supply electricity due to maintenance work.
The areas that had to deal with the power outage are Wishi, Sta. Helena, Paradijs, Domi, Sta. Maria, Buena Vista, Groot Kwartier, Matancia and surroundings.
The power also went out for a few minutes in some of the areas on the east side of the island.
At around 4pm the demand decreased and the utility company was able to restore power back to these areas. Meanwhile another machine was started to comply with the demands in the evening.
According to Aqualectra, they received information from the Meteorological Service that the temperature was 34 degrees Celsius. This was the reason why many consumers turned on their air-conditioning.
