Pressure tank not operational just yet

WILLEMSTAD — St. Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos) and Medical Center of Curaçao won’t be signing the collaboration agreement just yet, said Javier Hernandez, chairman of the board of Sehos. The hospital is waiting for a sign from the Inspection of the Public Health before signing the contract.

The Ministry of Education is yet to evaluate the diplomas from the Venezuelan specialists. Until then they’ll not be issued a permit to practice their profession on Curaçao. The protocol between Sehos and the operator of the pressure tank hasn’t been drawn up either. The parties had met last Friday but were unable to reach an agreement.

It therefore remains to be seen if the pressure tank will be operational on September 1st, as outgoing minister Jacinta Scoop-Constancia (MFK) guaranteed two weeks ago, and as demanded in a petition. On August 8th the minister hoped the decompression tank would be operational that afternoon after the Council of Ministers was to sign the documents. The pressure tank became so-called officially operational on July 27th but when a diving incident occurred it appeared that the permits weren’t arranged yet.

No vandalism

Hernandez denies that the hospital personnel had destroyed the pressure tank. Last week Minister of Public Health Jacinta Scoop-Constancia (MFK) said that culprits had destroyed the pressure chamber the day before the official opening.

According to Hernandez, there’s a misunderstanding between the minister and the Medical Center of Curaçao. Without a valid password it’s impossible to change anything in the system of the pressure tank. The password was only known to personnel from the Medical Center of Curaçao. The security images hadn’t revealed Sehos-personnel entering that particular day. Several security cameras are installed in and outside the facility.

CBV demands rectification

The union for nursing staff, CBV, demands that Minister Scoop-Constancia rectifies her challenged statement. The minister had called suspicion on the hospital personnel even though she hadn’t accused them directly.
