Prime Minister offers apologies to victims of firework explosion
WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Stanley Betrian offered yesterday during the weekly meeting of the Ministers, his apologies to the victims of the firework explosion last Saturday on behalf of his Government and previous Governments of Curacao. He also apologized to their families. Betrian recognized that serious errors were committed when there were reports that the warehouse had to be removed but nothing was donde.
This same warehouse which was rejected by the Fire Department exploded on December 15, 2012 killing three people and wounded another 4. One of the victims is still in serious conditions.
Ombudsman Alba Martijn suggested this week on her Facebook page that the Government should apologize to the victims and the Curacao community in general for the tragedy which could have been prevented.
“I take full responsibility and I offer my apologies on behalf of my Government and all other Governments of Curacao,” Betrian stated yesterday.
