Prison security tightened

Prison CuracaoWILLEMSTAD - Security has been tightened in the Curaçao prison. There are new electrical wirings, cameras and body scans. Also, stricter rules have been introduced for prisoners who wish to eat with their visitors.

That is now allowed only in very exceptional cases. This was recently announced by the prison warden Urny Floran. The so-called eating rule follows after inmates, in some cases, hid drugs or other contrabands in the food or drinking brought by their visitors. These were then taken out of prison.

The prison is now considering to provide water or to place candy machines to prevent prisoners from using the food to smuggle drugs.
