Public Health Department considering action against mosquitos

zika-virusWILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Public Health, Environment and Nature is considering whether action should be taken against mosquitos. This is according to the sector director Joe Alcala.

Because of the heavy rainfall the Ministry received several complaints about mosquitos. These complaints are coming from several areas on the island. The Ministry is assessing whether they must spray before the end of the year.

According to the sector director, there are a lot of mosquitos because people don’t take care of their gardens. There are several breeding grounds and in places, people can’t even imagine. Because of the rain, gardens become breeding grounds.

An increase in complaints about mosquitos could also mean that there is an increase in mosquito diseases such as zika, chikungunya or dengue. But there is still no proof of this.
