Public Yoga Event in Wilhelmina Park on 1st International Day of Yoga

June 21st, was declared as the "International Day of Yoga" by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14th, 2014. Yoga, a 6000 plus year old Physical, Mental and Spiritual practice having its origin in India, is aimed to transform Body and Mind. This first ever " Yoga Day" will be celebrated in 192 countries around the world.

IYD logoWILLEMSTAD - Yoga Teachers of Curacao in association with the honorable consul of India in Curaçao organize the 1st International Day of Yoga in the Wilhelmina Park in Punda on Sunday June 21stfrom 10am till 11.30am.

Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, is not only Father’s Day this year, but also the first International Day of Yoga to be celebrated around the world.

In Curacao the consul of India the honorable Mr. Manohar Sawilani, together with a group of 9 local yoga teachers with different backgrounds and teachings, have joined forces to get this public event organized in the city’s center park, getting as many people together as possible putting Curaçao on the international yoga map.

The program in Wilhelmina Park starts at 10am in the morning with an introduction to yoga and honoring Mr. Leo Floridas for his contribution to creating yoga awareness in Curaçao for over 45 years, followed by a FREE 35 minute yoga class, and ending the program at 11.30 am. The yoga class includes instructions of basic yoga poses (asanas), breathing (pranayama) and relaxation & meditation techniques.

Practitioners are asked to bring a yoga mat or towel to sit on. Wear sunscreen and loose comfortable clothing. Water will be served and recycling is stimulated, so the organization requests participants and onlookers to bring refillable water bottles.
