Refinery’s Contractors Association threatens with lawsuit

WILLEMSTAD – The Antillean Contractors Association (AAV) spans possible lawsuit against the Curacao Refinery (Isla). The lawyer of the association studies that possibility, says director Mike Willem to the media. The AAV requires an update of the Isla on settlements, including the one-time bonus for employees who work on the Isla grounds.

The Isla is suppose to pay this to the AAV,  which in turn distributes it to its employees, an estimated 500 to 600. In addition, a number of specific employees were suppose to get a raise, which would also be paid by the Isla. To date there was no payment by the refinery. The absence of the bonus of 1,600 guilders per employee led to a strike by the workers last week.
