Screening festival promoters to become stricter

Jiwan Gonesh, Elisabeth Kok, Gisgard Felida, Steven Martina, Janine de WindWILLEMSTAD - The screening for promoters of events is becoming stricter. This is what Minister Steven Martina of Economic Development said in a reaction to a letter from the Member of Parliament for the coalition party PAR, Stephen Walroud.

Walroud wanted answers after the cancellation of the Ponton festival. He wanted to know, among other things, whether and how promoters are screened before they get support from the government or government entities.

The festival that was supposed to take place in April was canceled on the day itself. Thousands of people had bought a ticket for the festival, but it soon became clear that the organization Su Musica was bankrupt. The festival was organized with financial support from the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB).

According to Walroud, the CTB will not receive the money back, but there are clear agreements about the screening and how it should go in the future.
