Sehos prepared for Ebola cases, small chance for outbreak

WILLEMSTAD - The St. Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos), in collaboration with other (health) authorities, has prepared a protocol in the event of an Ebola outbreak in Curacao. The Pan American Health Organization, however, has recently found that the risk of an outbreak in our region is very small.

The hospital has been working on the protocol for some time nowHospital. This was led by epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth.

In the case of infection, the person is directly isolated in order to prevent spreading. People who have come in contact with this person, will be closely monitored for three weeks to make sure they don't get sick.

All handlers receive special clothing and must abide by strict rules. In the event that an unprotected doctor or nurse comes into contact with blood or other body fluids, this will be reported immediately to the medical service at Sehos.
