Shipbuilders Damen will likely come to Curaçao
WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards Group is probably going to start a small shipyard in Curaçao. This is according to the Dutch local newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad. They claim to have different credible sources that have indicated Damen’s intentions.
The yard, which will be in the Parera area, will be primarily intended to carry out maintenance and repairs for Damen’s tugboats in the region.
The area where the shipyard will be built was issued in a concession deal to the company Nederex. Nederex will it in turn lease it to Damen.
Damen did not give more information on the precise plans for their project in Curaçao. It is clear that the shipyard will not be a competitor of the distressed Curaçao Drydock Company.
