Socio-economic improvement motto of Appeltjes van Oranje awards 2015

Oranje Fonds seeks sustainable initiatives.

Oranje fondsUTRECHT, WILLEMSTAD - The theme for the Appeltjes van Oranje awards in 2015 is “Helping each other!”. The Oranje Fonds will crown the successful achievements of three social organizations that aim to enhance the chances of people in a socio-economically disadvantaged position in order to enable them to play a more active and intense role in society. Every year, the Appeltjes van Oranje awards are presented by Queen Máxima, patroness of the Oranje Fonds. Organizations can submit their entries until September 30, 2014 at www.oranjefonds.nl/appeltjes.

The Oranje Fonds is highlighting the plight of groups that, for socio-economic reasons, have a hard time keeping up with the pace of society and thus run the risk of being socially isolated. Says Ronald van der Giessen, President of the Oranje Fonds: “Fortunately, many people in The Kingdom of the Netherlands work hard to involve these people. That is why we are looking for initiatives that –with the help of volunteers- aim to find a place for these groups in our society, or even help them find a paid or volunteering position. This is how we create a socially stronger Kingdom.”

The Appeltjes of Oranje awards are presented annually for initiatives that connect people with different backgrounds successfully. The award consists of a bronze statuette that was created by Princess Beatrix and a cash prize of €15.000. In May 2015, Queen Máxima will award this prize to the winners for the thirteenth time. Like every year, the public can cast their vote in support of their favourite entry.

The Oranje Fonds aids social initiatives financially, as well as with know-how and its social network. Last year, € 28,7 million was spent helping organizations that stimulate a more engaged society in the Kingdom of The Netherlands. People meet or find their place in society because of contributions like these. The Oranje Fonds is supported by the Nationale Postcode Loterij and De Lotto, as well as by friends and benevolent companies. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have been the official patrons of the Oranje Fonds since its inception.
