Square named after union leader Papa Godett

godettWILLEMSTAD - The Council of Ministers has decided to dedicate square right in front of the post office in downtown Punda to Wilson "Papa" Godett. Today marks the 45th anniversary since violent riots took place in Otrobanda. According to the government Godett has thus paved the way for the emancipation of workers in Curacao.

"It is appropriate to honor his legacy. There is already an image of Wilson Godett on the square, there is also a street named after him, but it's never too much for a country to put its legacy on a pedestal and in a positive light - for the entire community of Curaçao, communities in the Kingdom and other nations in the Caribbean and the world - to take his fight to improve the community. This is according to the government in a press release.
