Successful Windsurfing Competition in preparation for the upcoming Curacao Challenge 2014

Open Class Winners IMG_8477WILLEMSTAD -  Last weekend, on Sunday April 13,  the 2014 Windsurfing Curaçao Slalom Series took place for the second time this year. The Windsurfing Curaçao Slalom Series is a sequence of several competitions planned throughout the year with the intention to increase the level of our local windsurfing talents, in preparation for regional and international windsurfing events.

Last Sunday’s successful event, the “2014 Windsurfing Curacao Slalom Series II”, was organized by the surf School “Windsurfing Curaçao”, together with the help of enthusiastic volunteers and parents.It was a successful event, which this time served as training for the upcoming Curacao Challenge 2014, where our local talents will be measuring their forces among the most talented windsurfers from our neighbor islands and other countries.

Boys till 11 Class IMG_3553[4]On Sunday morning, a group of 39 enthusiastic windsurfers of all levels and ages,Open Class1IMG_3584 gathered at the windsurfing Curacao Surf School, to start rigging their equipment. With winds within a range of 17 to 22 knots, the windsurfers were eager to enter into the “Spanish Waters” to start competing and showing their increasing windsurfing skills and racing speeds. The categories were divided as follows: Open Class (all ages and all levels racing together usually for the most advanced windsurfers age 18+), Boys 14 and older, Boys Up-to-13, Girls 15 and older, who raced a total of 4 individual group heats, and Boys Up-to-11 and Girls Up-to-14 who raced a total of 2 individual group heats, for a great total of 20group races throughout the morning.

Also while the windsurfing competition was in full action, at the same time a SUP (Stand Up Paddling) competition was taking place, having the spectators also very entertained with this new and popular racing sport.

WINDSURFING RESULTS: After a morning full of adrenaline, the results for the windsurfers were as follows: Competing in the highest category the OPEN CLASS (age 18+): 1st Place Milan Gielingh (age 18), 2nd Place Jean Patrick van der Wolde (age 18), and competing in a higher category for his age 3rd Place was for Jean Paul Da Silva De Goes (age 15).  BOYS 14 and older: 1st Place Ryan Richie, and competing in a higher category for his age also, 2nd Place was for Stefan De Bell (age 11) , and 3rd Place Wave Antonia. BOYS UP-to-13: 1st Place Luca Van Der Bunt, 2nd Place Ramon Sijm, 3rd Place Tom van Zanten, BOYS UP-to-11: 1st Place Faan Coenen, 2nd Place Boris van Noort, 3rd Place Luka Stomp, GIRLS 15 and older: 1st Place Ingrid Bakker, 2nd Place Yentl Gielingh, 3rd Place Chiara Bakker. GIRLS UP-to-14: 1st Place Anne Coenen, 2nd Place Zoe Munnink, 3rd Place Danique Stomp.
