Supermarkets angry because of limited supply vegetables

SupermarketWILLEMSTAD - The supermarkets in Curacao have bundled together and complained about the limited possibilities of imports of vegetables. Indeed, there is no exemption granted for the import of vegetables that are not available on the local market.

Three weeks ago, a load of vegetables, for which no exemption was given by the LVV, was dumped. The angry e-mail from the supermarkets is directed to the Minister of Economic Development Stanley Palm, who ultimately decides whether or not the charge is granted on the basis of the advice of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature.

The problem affects not only the supermarkets, but also the hospitality industry and thus the tourists. This Friday, the Ministry of Economic Development and LVV are hoping to continue with the negotiations with the supermarket owners.
