SVB and Tax Collector help in sales Plaza Hotel
WILLEMSTAD - The Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and the Tax Collector of Curaçao as the largest creditors of the Plaza Hotel have agreed to assist in finding a buyer. "The idea is that a group is formed that will push the sale of the hotel," confirms the financial manager of the Plaza Hotel, Erik Ogenia.
With the help of these creditors, the management of the hotel hopes to find a buyer on short term. The outstanding debts with the SVB, the Tax Collector, Aqualectra and others must be resolved.
According to Eugenia, there were initially five groups of investors who were interested. Ultimately, the management met with only two groups. These are a group from Spain and one from Venezuela. To date, none of them have really achieved anything concrete. The President of the union representing employees in the hotel industry, HORECAF, says that the negotiations with these two groups have failed because the owners are asking too much money. Also, it is not clear how much money is needed to renovate the hotel.
