Taams now really under the hammer

Taams ClinicWILLEMSTAD - The embattled Taams clinic goes under the hammer in December. The notary office Eshuis has announced the auction in various newspapers on the island.

Taams clinic has been camping with financial problems for some time now. Since August this year, inpatient admissions have stopped, and according to medical director of the clinic Earl Esseboom, at that time, it was a matter of days before the plug is pulled. That time has arrived now.

Before the announcement was made, the clinic had struggled to keep the operation rooms and the sleep disorder unit operating. Esseboom said that in the operating room, they only performed surgeries that cost money. Surgeries that required inpatient admissions were no longer possible, according to the medical director.

Suppliers and banks had been very supportive, but there were also several seizures. Because of this, there was a lack of certain drugs and materials that were necessary in order to perform various operations. Esseboom stated that the clinic had to close its doors unless help comes from the government.

The clinic has a large number of creditors, including the Orcobank, the Tax Services and the SVB. The auction has no direct impact on the survival of the clinic. Taams has 176 employees.
