Tsunami warning system at Mega Pier
WILLEMSTAD – At the Mega Pier there is a small drilling rig installed in connection with the danger of a possible tsunami. Experts are drilling into the seabed to place an equipment, which must notify them when a possible tsunami wave is going to hit the island.
In all the Caribbean, experts are currently working to create a regional tsunami warning system. Curaçao has never been hit by a devastating flood.
However, there are regularly mild earthquakes in the region. An earthquake can cause a tsunami.
The danger could possibly also come from the Atlantic Ocean.
