UNA successfully opens its academic year 2013-2014

UNAWILLEMSTAD – As part of the new academic year the, the university of Curacao (UNA) opened this year with a lecture, which took place last Friday, September 6.  This year, Rector Dr. Francis de Lanoy decided to organize the opening as a formal academic ceremony, in which he and the deans of the five faculties appeared in a gown, accompanied by a so-called Beadle (officer of the university with a ceremonial role).

Principal Kafele from New Jersey was invited as a guest speaker. Mr. Kafele has an exceptional track record in education, is the author of seven books and has won over a hundred awards. This includes the Kean University Distinguished Alumni Award (2013), the New Jersey Education Association Award of Excellence (2011), and the Milken National Educator Award in 2009.

The auditorium of the UNA was packed, including Prime Minister Asjes, the U.S. Consul General James Moore and representatives from the universities of Aruba and St. Maarten. After the speeches of the Rector and Principal Kafele also a representative of the UNA student had the opportunity to speak to the audience.
