WILLEMSTAD - The Customs Department of Curaçao has seized and destroyed a large amount of vegetables from Venezuela this week. Mainly peppers and pumpkins. These fruits were imported through the fruit boats from Venezuela that are docked at the floating market. The importers did not have the right papers, according to customs.
The news has been all over the social media where people have condemned these actions. Many have said that there are people on the island in desperate need and they have to see how authorities are destroying good food.
Local newspapers have also published this news. In their articles they protested against the destruction.
Previously, such kind of products were donated to charity organizations. But local fruit and vegetable growers have protested against this because it would ruin their business.
