Voting with pencil and paper on September 30
WILLEMSTAD – In the upcoming elections on September 30 this year, voters will vote using pencil and paper. This is according to the Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council, Raymond Römer.
Römer indicated that it is up to the politicians to change this.
Years ago, between 2003 and early 2010, voters still voted using voting machines. Initially the Dutch Nedap voting machines were used. Later the Electoral Council switched to the partially Venezuelan company Smartmatic. But in the political arena there has always been resistance to the use of voting machines.
There were doubts about the protection against fraud, although there has never been any proof of possible fraud in Curacao with these machines, while politicians also argued that the vote would be somewhat inaccessible through the voting machine and that many people are afraid to vote using these machines.
