Werner Wiels angry over Isla-motion
WILLEMSTAD – Chairman of the Multidisciplinary Project Team (MDPT), which deals with the development of the Curaçao oil refinery, Werner Wiels is not happy with the proposed motion of the Dutch parliament on the refinery.
Yesterday the Dutch House of Representatives filed a motion over the refinery. In it the Dutch MPs state that the air around the refinery and the power plant CRU should be considerably cleaner in lo later than three months.
Coming Tuesday the Dutch parliament will vote on this motion. According to Wiels, this is a new attempt by the Netherlands to interfere with the island’s internal affairs.
The Dutch Minister of Kingdom Relations, Ronald Plasterk has been saying, for quite some time now, that the oil refinery is an internal affair of the Government of Curaçao. He can only offer the help of Dutch experts in this case. But the Dutch parliament is not happy with this and some MPs are demanding more action from the Minister.
