‘All Hands on Desk’ CAS-BES Disaster Coordination

WILLEMSTAD - On August 20 and 21, 2018, Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath of Curaçao, on the initiative of Minister-President Leona Romeo-Marlin of Sint Maarten, facilitated the inter-island consultation 'All Hands on Desk CAS-BES Disaster Coordination', where Prime Minister Eveline Wever-Croes from Aruba was also present.

At this 'high level' meeting between the Caribbean islands of the kingdom were also present, the Governors of Sint Maarten and Curaçao, Defense Caribbean Area, the VNW - Representation of the Netherlands in Willemstad. and stakeholders such as the Red Cross and the Disaster Coordinators of Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Maarten, Saba and Statia and other officials in charge of crisis management.

On the basis of the experience of Hurricane Irma in Sint Maarten it appears, among other things, that after the constitutional changes of October 10, 2010, certain structures for cooperation and consultation have lapsed, hence the initiative to make better agreements with each other. Practical agreements have now been made that can already apply to the current hurricane season. The parties will also elaborate on how the Netherlands will be formally involved in this process as a partner in the Kingdom.
