Almost an agreement, still strike SGTK
WILLEMSTAD - There is almost an agreement between union SGTK, the Antillean Contractors Association and the oil refinery Isla. This is according to the government mediator Randolph Gijsbertha.
In principle, there is agreement on a wage increase of six and three percent over 2017 and 2018. It now needs to be paid in a lump sum. This so-called "signing fee" amounts to 300,000 to 400,000 guilders.
The national mediator has asked the contractor association, the refinery, and the government to pay this amount. Although there is an agreement in principle, the union leader Alcides Cova said yesterday that the workers employed through contractors in the refinery will continue with their actions.
