Asjes: ‘Financial Instructions will be lifted this Friday’

The HagueWILLEMSTAD – The Prime Minister of Curacao, Ivar Asjes announced that the final parts of the financial instructions given by the Kingdom Council of Ministers will be lifted this coming Friday. This will happen during the meeting of the Kingdom Council of Ministers in The Hague, the Netherlands. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance are traveling to the Netherlands for this purpose.

The Kingdom Council of Ministers was forced to put the finances of Curacao under supervision through the financial instructions in July 2012. This was during the Government Schotte for alleged financial mismanagement. This measure was supervised by the Committee for Financial Supervision.

The financial instructions were necessary since the government was on the edge of financial ruin. This is a sad case, according to the Dutch government, since the island’s debts were practically cleared to give the new nation a fresh start after October 10, 2010.

Parts of the instructions were previously lifted after the Governments Betrian and Hodge started to put order in the public finances.
