Asjes: ‘The Government will work with the TI report’

Prime MinisterWILLEMSTAD – The Government of Curacao will thoroughly examine the Transparency International report, which was published in June of this year. The report states that there is a general lack of trust in Curacao’s key institutions. According to the organization, this is a major obstacle for strengthening the foundations of this new country and will limit the success of any program addressing corruption and promoting good governance.

The main objective of the research was to study of the island’s most important institutions for fighting corruption, promoting transparency, increasing accountability and good governance.

Prime Minister Ivas Asjes stated that there will be a meeting of all top officials in each Ministry with the objective of improving the Government’s agenda. The TI report will serve as guidance for this meeting.

This project is led by the Ministry of Planning, Management and Government Policy, which is currently working with Integrity Bureau of the city of Amsterdam to draft an integrity policy for the Government and its officials.

When will the improvement agenda be ready is not yet known.
