Update: Omayra Leeflang resigns from PAR and becomes independent MP

Omayra LeeflangWILLEMSTAD – The well know and outspoken member of the yellow party PAR, has resigned from the political party. She was one of the most loyal members of the party.

Her resignation is because the party has chosen former Prime Minister, Daniel Hodge as their new leader. Mrs. Leeflang did not participate in that process.

The new PAR leader announced that he will unite the party and eliminate all the different “satellites” in the organization.

Leeflang will also take her parliamentary seat and become an independent MP, just as Glenn Sulvaran did last year after during the formation of a new government.

Today there was a press conference at the yellow party’s office in which the party president, Zita Jesus-Leito elaborated a little bit more on Omayra Leeflang’s decision to resign from the party.

According to Jesus-Leito, Leeflang’s decision was based on the issue of the Basic Health Insurance, introduced during Hodge’s five month terms as Prime Minister in the transitional Government. Back then, Leeflang voted against this measure in Parliament.

For Leeflang it is impossible to have a leader who was at the center of something she referred to as a ‘massacre of the Curacao pensioners’. For this reason she resigned and will continue in Parliament as an independent member of Parliament.

Mrs. Leeflang announced on her facebook page that she will give PAR one day to deal with her resignation and will hold a press conference to explain her decision.
