Brothers are not suspects in Wiels’ case anymore

Court houseWILLEMSTAD – The judge has ruled today that the brothers who were arrested for the murder of Helmin Wiels are  no longer suspects. Their detention is only based on the threat of a terrorist crime. This was reported by the Public Prosecutor.

Uttering of threats with the intent to terrify the population or disrupt the social structure of a country can be seen as a terrorist crime under the law. Threat of a terrorist offense can be punished with imprisonment not exceeding six years or a fine of up to 100,000 guilders. The two men were arrested on Tuesday, May 7 in connection with the distribution of a video on YouTube in which they announce that the murder Wiels was the first of a series. Wiels was killed on Sunday, May 5th at the public beach of Marie Pampoen.
