CFT criticizes Curaçao for poor communication; Minister disagrees

Ministry of FinanceWILLEMSTAD - The criticism from the Council for Financial Supervision (CFT) that the communication between Curacao and the CFT is bad was denied by the Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha. But Gijsbertha does recognize that certain information was not sufficient, including the action matrix.

The CFT wrote in its letter of August 29 that it was difficult to obtain progress information. According to the CFT, this contributes to the lack of confidence that a new deficit can be averted by the end of 2018. Timely and transparent information was lacking according to the CFT.

Frequent and timely sharing of the progress is essential, especially in a year in which structural shortcomings must be reversed, according to the CFT.

Gijsbertha does not feel criticized by the statement of the board but admits to wanting to stay in contact with them. In the meantime, in response to the criticism from the CFT, it has been agreed to hold monthly meetings with the Board at official level.
