Coalition aims for June 3
WILLEMSTAD – The eleven members of Parliament who supports the coalition (PS/PAIS/PNP and independent member Glenn Sulvaran) haves asked acting Governor Adele van der Pluijm-Vrede to install a political cabinet on June 3 of this year. They did this during a public meeting yesterday morning in a letter addressed to the Office of the Governor.
President of Parliament, Mike Franco also received a letter with the resignation of the member of Parliament Ivar Asjes (Pueblo Soberano). Mike Franco confirmed he received this letter and said that the party will have to find a successor for Mr. Asjes.
With his resignation as Member of Parliament, Asjes paved the way to become Prime Minister of Curacao. Formateur Glenn Camelia, through his assistant, delivered the final report to the Palace of the Governor in Willemstad. In the final report, the candidates for the ministry of each party are mentioned, however, the formateur did not give any reports on the names. This gives the parties the opportunity to assign each candidate their ministerial post before the inauguration day.
Political party PAIS has been assigned three ministerial posts, Justice, Government Policy, Services and Planning and Economic Development. The party submitted six candidates, but last night they announced that Nelson Navarro, currently serving as Minister of Justice, will continue in the political cabinet. Etienne van der Horst will also remain as Minister of Government Policy, Services and Planning. Party Secretary, Stanley Palm will be appointed as the new Minister of Economic Development. Steven Martina returns after five months as director of Fatum Caribbean, although he will still be available to attract certain projects. With Palm in government, party leader Alex Rosaria has his hands free to act in Parliament, even though he indicated during elections that he had ambitions to become Minister of Economic Development.
Pueblo Soberano will officially announce who their candidates are for the ministerial posts assigned to them. They will also announce who the new leader will be for the party. Since they have the majority of the votes, they will also assign the post of Prime Minister. PS has the following portfolios; General Affairs (Prime Minister), Education, Sience, Culture and Sports, Social Affairs, Labor and Welfare and Health, Environment and Nature.
