Court case “Maximus” on April 19 and 21
WILLEMSTAD – The trial of the criminal case against the accused Burney Fonseca (Curaçao 1971) will take place on Wednesday, April 19 and Friday, April 21. Fonseca is a suspect in the investigation into the intellectual authors of the murder of the popular political leader Helmin Wiels. The case was named Maximus.
Fonseca is currently serving a prison sentence for exporting cocaine and money laundering. He will not be personally present during the treatment of the case "Maximus" in the courtroom, but he attends the hearing via video link.
Fonseca is seen by the Public Prosecutor (OM) as the link between intellectual authors and executors of the murder of Helmin Wiels in 2013. The executor of the murder has been convicted by the Supreme Court in the Netherlands to life imprisonment. The verdict, in this case, is now irrevocable.
The treatment of the criminal case against Fonseca was on August 8, 2014, but it was held indefinitely because the investigation was not yet completed.
The investigation into the involvement of Fonseca is now in such an advanced state that it can be treated by the court. The investigation into the other intellectual authors it is still ongoing.
