CRU operational again before the holidays

Oil RefineryWILLEMSTAD – In a press release, the Curaçao Refinery Utilities, better known as CRU, announced that it will be operational again for the holidays and can again supply utilities to the Isla refinery. Work on the BOO boilers have been progressing steadily. The company announced that it will continue to supply electricity to the community through Aqualectra’s grid.

CRU delivers compressed air, distilled water, energy and steam to the refinery. Partly due to the disappearance of CRU at the beginning of July this year, the refinery has not been able to produce for more than six months.

Now that CRU will be operational again, the company hopes that the refinery can continue receiving crude oil from Venezuela. It is still unknown whether the Venezuelan State Oil Company PDVSA will be able to restart the operations of the refinery.

The public company Refineria di Korsou (RdK), the Curaçao Refinery is doing its utmost to guarantee the continuation of the refining activities on the island. It is currently negotiating a take over by the American company Motiva Enterprises. This company is the so-called “Preferred Bidder”.  This company will have to take over from PDVSA after the end of 2019.
