Curacao fights against human trafficking

TaskforceWILLEMSTAD – In a recent report titled ‘Trafficking in Persons’, which was released by the U.S. Departments of State, Curacao is mentioned as a hub, transitional harbor and destination for women, children and man who are subjected to human trafficking. The world uses this report as an indication of which countries participate in the trafficking of humans

For this reason the Minister of Justice, Mr. Nelson Navarro has installed a task force, which has as its objective, to structurally act against the human trafficking on the island.

Ministers of Justice of all countries within the Dutch Kingdom have agreed a few years ago to intensify their cooperation and that one of their priorities is to fight against human trafficking, also how to deal with those who become victims of this criminal activity.

To give content to this endeavor, a task force was appointed consisting of representatives of the Public Prosecution (OM), Police Corps (KPC), Department of Social Affairs (SOAW), Department of Foreign Affairs (DBB), Victim assistance, Customs and the Ministry of Justice.

According to the existing MoU signed between the Ministers of Justice in the Kingdom, every country has to assign a coordinator and this person becomes the chairman of the task force.
