Curacao gives the Royal Couple a warm welcome

King and QueenWILLEMSTAD – King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima officially started their two day visit to Curacao this morning. The royal couple drove through the streets of Punda along hundreds of orange fans. Orange is the last name of the Dutch Royal House.

When the King and Queen arrived at the Governor’s square in downtown Willemstad, they were welcomed by Governor Lucille George-Wout and Prime Minister Ivar Asjes. The crowd was cheering and the school children all had their Curacao flag to wave and greet the royal couple.

The most amazing moment was when the King and Queen appeared on the balcony of the Governor’s palace. King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima waved and greeted the crowd who in turn cheered and waved their orange balloons and flags.

After the couple had visited with the Governor, they crossed the Fort Amsterdam square to the building of the Council of Ministers for a meeting with the Prime Minister and the other Ministers.
