Curacao heavily criticizes the Netherlands

Dutch ParliamentWILLEMSTAD – On the second day of the Inter-Parliamentary Kingdom Consultation, the delegation from Curacao strongly criticized the Netherlands. According to Alex Rosaria of the political party PAIS, the Netherlands has no practical foreign policy and the country thinks only of himself.

Curacao, according to Rosaria, is even hindered to express themselves in a foreign country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would, in the opinion of Rosaria, do too little effort to make it possible for Curacao to participate in training programs of the World Trade Organization. Charles Cooper of the MAN believes that the Kingdom Minister of Foreign Affairs should visit the little island more often. According to Cooper, the Minister does not even know where the island is. Also, the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament plans to stand in the way of Curacao engaging in treaties with other countries.

Rosaria recognized however that Curaçao could be more proactive. The Aruban delegation could not endorse the words of their colleagues from Curacao but considers that the Netherlands is giving enough support.
