Defense wants more local staff

JeanineTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch Minister of Defense Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert wants as many Defense personnel in the Caribbean replaced by local staff. According to the minister that is more suited to the development phase in which the organization is currently located. This was her reply in a letter in response to parliamentary questions.

Hennis-Plasschaert indicates that during the process of replacing the Defense staff by local personnel, they will look at qualitative adequacy. This means that local staff is only eligible for positions if they meets the training, knowledge and experience requirements. The Minister stressed that they will never replace all the Defense personnel by local staff.

The defense department is in the middle of reorganizing. Last year it was announced that 12,000 positions are discontinued, and 6,000 people will be dismissed. In the next few years another 333 million must also be cut from the budget.
