Director departs from civil aviation authority

Hans de JonghWILLEMSTAD - Hans de Jong leaves as of October 1 as director of the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA).

He will be replaced temporarily by the acting director, Leslie La Place. The Ministry of Transport will start the recruitment and selection procedure for a new director as soon as possible.

Curaçao wants to return the coveted category 1 status of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). De Jong was specially hired for this. Supervisor ICAO will do an audit next September.

The Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority with almost 29 employees in service must be updated to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the various categories, the documentation must be in order and the civil aviation authority must be set up sustainably and stay on track.

The American aviation authority FAA ruled in early 2012 that Curaçao does not meet all international requirements in the area of aviation safety. The country was therefore relegated from safety category 1 to 2. As a result, Curaçao airlines cannot operate flights to the US with their own aircraft.

Why De Jong now has to leave so suddenly has not been announced.
