Dutch OCTs meet with European Commissioner for Development Cooperation

OCT1BRUSSELS - The Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) of the Kingdom of the Netherlands also held Kingdom talks with the European Commissioner for Development Cooperation, Mr. Neven Mimica, on Friday 23 February 2018 during the EU-OCT Forum.

During this meeting, the islands were able to share how they experience the cooperation with the European Union and what the important issues are for them. The theme 'Resilience' was considered: making islands more resilient against natural disasters and climate shocks, while also empowering the people on the islands in their own development, poverty reduction, etc. Also geopolitical issues, like the situation in Venezuela were discussed.

The Prime Minister of Curaçao indicated on his Facebook page that in working together and sharing knowledge with the region, the Kingdom and the European Union, Curaçao and the other Dutch islands in the Caribbean are stronger.
