Four kingdom countries intensify health care cooperation

Health MinistersWILLEMSTAD - The four countries within the Kingdom want to be better prepared for future crises like Hurricane Irma. Medical aid must be optimal if the Caribbean part of the Kingdom is hit in the future by a new crisis or disaster.

So that victims receive relief and good quality medical care as quickly and optimally as possible, the care for existing patients and vulnerable groups is not compromised, medicines are in stock and medical care workers are well trained and practice regularly. Aruba, Curaçao, the Netherlands and Sint Maarten will work together more intensively to achieve this.

That was decided at a conference In Curaςao of the ministers of the four countries involved. They met to discuss further improvements in the quality of healthcare. Agreements were also made about prevention programs, including smoking, overweight and alcohol abuse, hospital cooperation, medicines, education of healthcare professionals and data exchange.

And the four countries will lift the care for children and young people who need it together to a higher level. Extra attention will be paid to combating child abuse and preventing and supporting unintended pregnancies, especially of teenagers.
