Fourth anniversary of Country Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – Today marks the fourth anniversary of the birth of Country Curaçao, an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Curaçao embraced on this day the title 'Country' and brought an end to the existence of the Netherlands Antilles.

Curaçao and Sint Maarten were given separate status. Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba became special municipalities of the Netherlands.

Dia di Kòrsou (Curaçao Day) was celebrated for the first time. A packed Brion plaza witnessed the Curaçao flag being hoisted to great applause.

Prince Willem-Alexander (now King) and his wife Maxima were present during this historic event.
