Governor opens Parliamentary Year 2014-2015

P1020778 (1024x768)WILLEMSTAD – The Governor of Curaçao, Her Excellency Mrs. Lucille George-Wout opened the new Parliamentary Year 2014-2015 this morning during a solemn ceremony at the Parliament Hall in Willemstad.

In her speech, the Governor indicated that this Parliamentary Year will be a positive one.

George-Wout indicated that the government had to take certain austerity measures which caused an impact on the society. The government had to take measures in the public health sector, which surely affected all the pensioners.

The government has also worked hard by giving all necessary support to the investigating team in the case Magnus to solve this horrendous crime, which happened a year ago. This cooperation sends a signal to the world that the people of Curaçao do not allow this type of acts to go unpunished and will be dealt with accordingly.

Her Excellency also spoke to the youth in the community, who chose to continue to commit crime without even considering the consequences for themselves, their victims and also the community. “A word of warning goes to these young people, ‘Ta Basta Awor’ (It’s enough!),” the Governor said in her speech.

“It’s enough now with criminal acts that have stained Curacao’s good reputation!”

Traditionally the Governor addresses the Parliament and also special guests and present the plans of the government for the new Parliamentary Year. After the Governor’s speech, the Minister of Finance presents the budget to the President of Parliament. The President will then in turn present this to the Members of Parliament for debate and approval.
