InselAir yearns for strategic partner
WILLEMSTAD –During his presentation on InselAir in Parliament yesterday, the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles and the Chairman of the Committee of Wise Men, Etienne Ys said that after the government Koeiman agreed to a bridging loan of 33.3 million guilders for InselAir things seemed to quickly improve for the financial situation of the airline.
But the unexpectedly high cost due to the loss of the MD aircraft made it harder for the company to recover. The MD’s were grounded by the Aruban authorities and InselAir had to lease aircraft from other companies. That cost a lot of money. Furthermore, flights were delayed and passengers had to be accommodated in hotels. Confidence in the company was not great but received an additional blow when the US consulate and the Dutch government banned their officials from flying with the local airline.
In view of those developments, the government decided to speed up the process of finding a strategic partner.
