Koenders: “Situation in Venezuela closely monitored”
WILLEMSTAD – According to the Dutch Minister of Foreign Relations, Bert Koenders, the developments in Venezuela are closely monitored by the Dutch government. This is in connection with the safety of the people living in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
Koenders made this statement Monday afternoon during his official visit in Aruba.
The islands of Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire lie just a few kilometers from Venezuela. There the population is being urged by President Nicolas Maduro to mobilize against capitalist coups and American imperialism. The presence of US military aircraft on the islands is regularly criticized by Venezuela.
According to Koenders the Kingdom will continue to invest in the relations with Venezuela and every effort is made to act in the interest of the people of all the countries in the Dutch Kingdom. Koenders indicated that “good neighbors” is the basis for the relations between the Kingdom and Venezuela.
Koenders is on an official visit to the islands till May 11. After the islands he will travel to Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico.
